Sep. 22--The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) plans to restructure its entire concession system involving private bus operators, according to Areepong Bhoocha-oom, the deputy director-general of the State Enterprise Policy Committee.

Authorities want to restructure the BMTA to compete more openly with private bus operators.

Regulatory duties now handled by the BMTA over private operators, including routes, bus schedules and service standards and fares, would be transferred to a new regulatory body independent of the state enterprise.
