Vic: Olympic torch in Kelly Country today

MELBOURNE, Aug 12 AAP - The Olympic torch makes its way through Kelly country today,
when it travels through north-eastern Victoria on its way to New South Wales.

After an overnight stop at Seymour, about 100 km north of Melbourne, the relay passes
through Avenel, Ned Kelly's childhood home.

Two Army tanks from the nearby Puckapunyal training base will escort the flame out
of Seymour for its morning journey through Avenel, Violet Town and Euroa before a lunch
stop at Benalla.

This afternoon the torch passes the site of Ned Kelly's last stand - Glenrowan - before
overnighting in Wangaratta.

Today's torchbearers include Alan Triscott, the co-founder of Little Athletics in Australia
in 1963-64.

According to the official Olympics website, Mr Triscott developed the concept and promoted
it until all states and territories became involved.

Now 90,000 children currently compete regularly.
