Taiwanese polyester fiber producers are moving to raise their prices in an attempt to cover the rise in material costs, such as EG and PTA. In association with the depreciation of the NT dollar, the material costs of polyester fibers have risen by NT$1-2/kg since April.
The Taiwanese currency weakened by 7% against the US dollar from NT$32.5 in May to around NT$35 in July. The devaluation seems to have a favorable effect on export-oriented textile manufacturers, but cost increases have worsened the position of fiber producers.
