Fed: Bronwyn Bishop eyes off Speaker's job

Prominent Liberal MP BRONWYN BISHOP has reportedly shown interest in taking on the
job of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Mrs BISHOP, who represents the New South Wales seat of Mackellar, served as a minister
in the first two HOWARD governments before being relegated to the backbench after the
2001 poll.

She's told the Herald Sun newspaper she's dismayed by the behaviour of MPs and believes
she can restore civility.

Mrs BISHOP says she's really thought it through and believes it's one way that she
can serve, adding that many people had encouraged her to take on the job.

Current Speaker NEIL ANDREW retires from politics at the coming election and will be
replaced by a Liberal MP if the HOWARD government is returned.
