Fed: Family Court to hold conference on cultural diversity
The Family Court of Australia and the Australian Multicultural Foundation are set tohold a roundtable conference on cultural diversity.
The two bodies say today's conference is the first to be held by a court in Australia.
It's to be attended by people representing multicultural organisations from across Australia.
It aims to determine ways in which the policies and services of the court can betterreflect Australia's multicultural communities.
Australian Bureau of Statistics figures indicate that, in 1999, 42 per cent of divorceswere granted to couples where one or both were born overseas.
Family Court Chief Justice ALASTAIR NICHOLSON says the roundtable conference will enablethe court to listen to the views, experiences and suggestions of people who work in thefield and understand the needs and issues of people from culturally diverse communities.
